Africa's state religions reflect the colonial past. Many aspects of early African religious beliefs have survived assimilation (not too mention annihilation) and are often practiced in parallel with the colonisers' religions. There is a "new age" inspired revival in early african religous beliefs which have many resonances with alternative belief systems.
