This is a truly breathtaking tour. Enjoy awesome biking on little used dirt roads through some of the most stunning rainforest and rural farming landscapes you will ever hope to find. Meet and chat with the local people or just sit back and watch life go on in true relaxed Ugandan style, camp beside picturesque lakes and mountains, and spend time with the awesome Mountain Gorillas.
Price includes: Airfare Johannesburg-Entebbe-Johannesburg on South African Airways;

(upgrades to rooms available at some campsites at your own expense, subject to availability);
All meals from evening of Day 2 to breakfast on Day 17, except for 2 lunches and 2 evening meals;

Price excludes: Visas, travel insurance, health requirements, drinks, gratuities,
local payment of USD 150 to cover park fees, local bike hire (if required) @ USD 150, Gorilla permit (currently USD 360 per trek),
sleeping mat, thermorest or similar, a good 2-3 season sleeping bag, optional extra excursions and meals,
all items of a personal nature and any service not specified.
Notes:
1 day Gorilla trek (optional, own cost). If you plan to trek this MUST be booked for and paid for in advance as there as limited numbers of visitors allowed to visit the Gorillas each day and we have to book and pay for your place sometimes 2-3 months in advance. If your place is not booked and paid for well in advance we cannot ensure that a place will be available for you. At present the cost is USD 360 per person, plus any local transport that may be required on the day.
Most nationalities require a visa to enter Uganda. These can normally be obtained on arrival at the border
Yellow Fever vaccination required (this must be done no later than 10 days prior to departure - if you have had any previous liver disorders you must consult your physician first)
9-10 days biking on 80% dirt roads. Some off road experience is preferred. From 25 km to 90 km per day.
Detailed intinerary
Day 1: Morning departure from Johannesburg on South African Airways to Entebbe, arriving mid afternoon. On arrival you will be met and transferred to the Central Inn. Overnight on a room only basis.
Days 2: Day free. We can suggest some sightseeing options if required. At 17h00 we meet you at the hotel for a pre-trip briefing.
Day 3: After a relaxed breakfast we head to the shores of Lake Victoria to meet the boat that will take us to Bugala Island, one of the Ssese Islands that abound in this huge lake. In the afternoon we will set up your bikes and explore part of the island, relax, swim and enjoy a taste of island life. Approx 20 kms biking. Overnight camping.
Day 4: Leaving our beach camp we bike across Bugala Island to meet the local car ferry that will take us to the mainland. From here it's a day on dirt roads passing through rural farmland to Masaka. Approx 70 kms biking. Overnight camping (upgrades to rooms available).
Day 5: A short transfer along the main road gets us to the turn-off to Lake Mburo National Park, a small little visited park teeming with plains game. This is one of the few national parks that it is possible for us to bike through as we head to our campsite right beside the lake. Watch hippo as we enjoy a sunset over the lake. Approx 25 kms biking. Overnight camping.
Day 6: Biking on through Lake Mburo National Park view zebra, topi, gazelle and more from the saddle as we head to the park gate. From here it's on through villages and farmland until we meet again with the main road. Afternoon transfer to Lake Bunyoni, a beautiful lake nestled in the mountains of western Uganda. Approx 25 kms biking. Overnight camping (upgrades to rooms available).
Day 7: A stunning ride through virgin rainforest and heavily terraced farmland as we make our way through the mountains towards Buhoma and the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to some of the last remaining families of Mountain Gorillas. Approx 90 kms biking. Overnight camping.
Days 8-9: Gorilla trekking. From our base in Buhoma you will meet up with your rangers/guides and trek into the rainforest in search of the Mountain Gorillas. For those not trekking the area abounds with day walks and exploring the local area. Overnight camping.
Day 10: Biking away from the Impenetrable Forest we pass through more of Uganda's beautiful mountains, along little used dirt roads to Queen Elizabeth National Park. An afternoon game drive takes us through the park to Ishasha River Camp. Approx 70 kms biking. Overnight camping.
Day 11: After a morning game drive it's back on our bikes through rolling countryside to Ishaka where we meet the main road. A short transfer in the afternoon takes us to Mbarara. Approx 65 kms biking. Overnight camping.
Day 12: A day off our bikes as we transit east, passing through the capital city, Kampala and onto Jinja and our campsite on the banks of the River Nile. Overnight camping (upgrades to rooms available).
Day 13-14: Experience white water rafting on the mighty White Nile (optional), help out with a local community project with Softpower Education or explore the local town and markets in Jinja. Overnight camping (upgrades to rooms available).
Day 15: Back in the saddle we follow a series of small dirt roads and tracks through villages and banana plantations as we head down river to our campsite on an island midstream in the River Nile. Approx 50 kms biking. Overnight camping.
Day 16: A final days biking back towards Kampala, firstly on dirt roads then onto quiet paved roads as we get closer to the Capital. Head out for the evening to sample the local cuisine (own cost). Overnight camping (upgrades to rooms available).
Day 17: We will transfer you to the airport for your afternoon flight on South African Airways to Johannesburg.
